World Teachers' Day: Isn't It that Funny and Deceitful? Sarafadeen Alli With Documented Record Of Withholding Teachers' Salaries Now Making False Promises
Isn't it funny and deceitful that the same Sarafadeen Alli who has a documented record of withholding teachers' salaries for months is now parading himself as a friend of teachers on World Teachers' Day?
As Oyo State and the rest of the world marked World Teachers' Day, Senator Sarafadeen Alli took to the media to roll out empty promises and sweet words to teachers, in what many have described as a desperate attempt to rewrite history and deceive the unsuspecting public.
It is public knowledge that during Alli's inglorious reign as Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government owed teachers, for several months, teachers as teachers d went through untold hardship. Salaries were withheld, cooperatives were not remitted, and many teachers could not afford to feed their families, all under a system Alli was a key part of as Chairman.
Teachers still remember vividly how they were turned to beggars, how they queued for palliatives, and how the profession was degraded.
Today, the same man who could not ensure teachers were paid when he had the opportunity to serve is now making false promises of better welfare for teachers if given another chance. Who does not know this is a classic case of political deceit?
Stakeholders have said teachers in Oyo State are wiser. They know the difference between a government that has consistently paid salaries on the 25th of every month, recruited over 14,000 teachers through merit, increased car and housing loans, and prioritized teachers' welfare, and a man whose antecedents speak of neglect and anti-teacher policies.
World Teachers' Day is a day to honour genuine lovers of teachers, not political opportunists with a history of salary withholding seeking relevance through false promises.
