The Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency candidate of the NDC in the 2027 general election and former APGA governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Hon. Adeshina Adewale, popularly known as Hon. Excel, has narrowly escaped what he described as an assassination attempt.

According to his account, the incident happened on Friday, 18th September 2026, after a political meeting with his group at CAC Grammar School, Adesola, in Ibadan South East Local Government Area. The meeting reportedly ended at about 9:00 p.m.

While returning with his personal assistant on a motorcycle, he was reportedly intercepted by nine hoodlums on three motorcycles, who attacked him and others with cutlasses.

Hon. Excel said the prompt intervention of operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) saved his life and those of the others with him. He expressed his appreciation to the men of the agency for their swift response.

He also appealed to politicians to shun any "do-or-die" approach during and after electioneering, stressing that no election is worth a single human life.

He urged his supporters and all NDC faithful in Oyo State to remain calm and law-abiding, and expressed confidence that the party will record a landslide victory in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
