World Teachers’ Day: Hon Babalola Honours Teachers as Architects of Nation-Building, Hails Their Sacrifice

Oyo lawmaker advocates dignity, improved welfare and greater investment in education

Ibadan, Oyo State — October 5, 2026

The member representing Ibadan North East Constituency 01 in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Oluwaseun Babalola, PhD, popularly known as “Mr Integrity,” has joined teachers and education stakeholders around the world in celebrating the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, describing teachers as architects of nation-building.

In a goodwill message made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Babalola said no nation could build a prosperous future without strong, motivated and respected teachers. He noted that the 2026 celebration, marked under the theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” commemorates the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

“Teachers are the architects of nation-building. Every leader, professional and public servant we celebrate today was first shaped in a classroom by a teacher who gave time, patience and knowledge without counting the cost,” he said.

The lawmaker saluted teachers across Oyo State and Nigeria for their selfless service and dedication, noting that their contribution to society extends far beyond the classroom. He said teachers deserve not only appreciation on World Teachers’ Day but sustained respect and recognition for the important role they play in shaping future generations.

Babalola also called for continued efforts toward strengthening the teaching profession through better training, improved working conditions and welfare that reflects the value of teachers’ service. “If we truly believe in the future of our children, we must invest in those who prepare them for it,” he said, while urging parents, communities and governments at all levels to continue supporting teachers and treating education as a foundation for development.

He encouraged teachers to remain committed to their calling, assuring them that their efforts in shaping the character and knowledge of the next generation would continue to have a lasting impact. He concluded by praying for God’s blessings, strength and protection for teachers and their families, wishing teachers across Nigeria a happy World Teachers’ Day.
