Oyo Government To Celebrate Nigeria At 66
The Oyo State Government will on Wednesday, October 1st, 2026, join the rest of the country to celebrate Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary with a grand finale at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Briefing pressmen ahead of the celebration, the coordinating ministry, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, led by the Commissioner, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, disclosed that the state government has lined up a week-long programme to commemorate the anniversary.
According to her, the celebration kickstarted on Thursday, September 24th, 2026, with a School Sports Competition held across the state to promote unity and youth participation in nation-building.
This was followed by a Special Jumat Service on Friday, September 25th, and a Special Church Service on Sunday, September 27th, where prayers were offered for the continued peace, progress, and unity of Nigeria and Oyo State.
Hon. Adegoke further stated that as part of the activities, an Independence Walk was held on Monday, September 29th, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musbaudeen Babatunde, on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde.
She noted that the grand finale, which will wrap up the week-long celebration, will come up on Wednesday, October 1st, 2026, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, by 9:00 a.m. prompt.
The finale will feature awards presentations, March Past by schools, voluntary organisations and security agencies, cultural displays, and other side attractions to mark this year's Independence Day.
Government functionaries, civil servants, political office holders, artisans, market men and women, youth groups, students, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders are expected to join the Oyo State Government to mark the anniversary.
The Commissioner urged residents of the state to come out en masse to celebrate Nigeria at 66 and to continue to uphold the values of unity, patriotism, and peaceful coexistence.
