OYO ASSEMBLY, IITA MEET TO PARTNER TO TACKLE FOOD POISONING AND ADULTERATION.
In a renewed effort to safeguard public health and ensure food safety in Oyo State, the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Safety, Chaired by Hon. Babalola Abiodun, PhD has intensified engagements aimed at combating the growing concerns surrounding food poisoning and food adulteration in the state.
As part of this initiative, the Committee initiated a strategic collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), leveraging the institute’s expertise to develop practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges of unsafe food and food adulteration.
Following a series of engagements with the institute, the House Committee on Nutrition and food safety facilitated a meeting between the IITA directorate and the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
The Speaker, who is the third citizen of Oyo State, warmly received the delegation and held fruitful discussions with the team on strategies to strengthen food safety mechanisms, address food poisoning, and curb the circulation of adulterated food products across the state.
The engagement marks an important step towards establishing a collaborative framework involving the legislature and relevant scientific institutions to protect consumers, promote food quality standards, and safeguard the health and well-being of residents of Oyo State.
The ultimate goal is clear: to build a safer food system for Oyo State through effective legislation, scientific collaboration, public awareness, and sustainable enforcement measures.
