Oyo Politics: Gbolarumi Leads Massive PDP Show Of Force in Oyo Town
OYO, Oyo State – Wednesday, August 26, 2026
Oyo town witnessed a massive turnout on Wednesday as Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship flagbearer in Oyo State, led a grassroots gathering in the ancient city.
The event attracted party leaders, stakeholders, women and youth groups, and supporters from Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas. PDP Local Government Party Chairmen and Executives from across Oyo Federal Constituency were also present.
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Adewusi Adegbola, Chairman of the PDP in Oyo Central Senatorial District, described Gbolarumi as the pillar of stability for the PDP in Oyo State.
“Barr. Gbolarumi stood firm when others walked away,” Adegbola said. “At a time when some who benefited from the party abandoned it, he remained steadfast. He invested his time, resources and goodwill to keep the PDP standing in Oyo State. Today, he presents himself before his people not just as a candidate, but as a tested leader ready to serve. In Gbolarumi, PDP has a leader with the capacity to deliver.”
Prince Lukman Adediran, Oyo State Treasurer of the PDP, commended Gbolarumi for his consistency and commitment to party building.
“Baba Gbolarumi has shown that leadership is about sacrifice,” Adediran said. “He has remained accessible and supportive from the ward to the state level.”
The State Assistant Secretary also commended Gbolarumi as a bridge-builder and grassroots mobilizer.
He was accompanied to the event by Hon. Jelili Adeleke, former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, and key members of the Oyo State PDP Executive Committee, including Prof. Abdulraman Akinoso, State Chairman; Alhaji Musilu Anibaba, Deputy Chairman; Dr. Abiola Olaonipekun, State Secretary; Alhaja Latifa Latifu, State Women Leader; Hon. Kabir Ajibola Odeyemi, State Ex-Officio; Hon. Akeem Adeleke, State Youth Leader; Hon. Adekunle Olatinwo, State Financial Secretary; Hon. Steven Olaniyi, State Organizing Secretary; and Hon. Tolani Adio, State Assistant Secretary.
Also present were Hon. Afolabi Idris "ALOMA", PDP candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; State Assembly candidates Hon. Salami Rafiu Tunde for Afijio, Hon. Afeez Bashorun for Atiba, and Hon. Akeem for Oyo East/Oyo West; and a representative of Engr. Ayobami Akinyode Olunloyo, PDP candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District.
Party leaders urged members to remain united and mobilize at the polling unit level ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event ended with prayers for peace and progress in Oyo State.
