Makinde to Host NPFL as League Unveils 2026/27 Fixtures at Ibadan AGM
Governor Seyi Makinde is set to host the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, as the league holds its Annual General Meeting and unveils fixtures for the 2026/27 season in Ibadan on Friday, 7 August 2026.
The high-profile AGM, to be hosted by the Oyo State Government, will bring football stakeholders from across the country to the Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Events Hall, opposite the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
The AGM serves as the league’s highest decision-making forum. It will bring together the NPFL Board and representatives of all clubs to review the just-concluded season and approve policies and operational plans for the new campaign.
According to NPFL Chairman, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, one of the league’s major achievements in the last four years has been maintaining a consistent calendar, with seasons running from August to May since 2023/24.
“Our modest achievement is putting the NPFL on a stable calendar since the 2023/24 season. It is a major shift from the era when no one knew when the season would end,” Elegbeleye said.
He also noted progress in broadcast coverage: “We have succeeded to a large extent in securing live broadcast coverage of the league, although there is still much more work to be done.”
During the meeting, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi will present the technical and operational report, while GTI Asset Management will present the financial report.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, assured the NPFL of adequate security and effective planning. She said the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, has made all necessary arrangements to host the event and deliver a seamless experience for all delegates.
The fixtures draw for the 2026/27 campaign will take place after the league’s earlier announcement of the season’s kick-off date.
