Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has commended the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo (OMUYES), for delivering people-oriented projects that have significantly improved commerce, transportation, and general wellbeing of residents within the council area.
The governor gave the commendation on Friday while commissioning a set of newly constructed facilities executed by the Ibadan North-East Local Government, comprising 69 lock-up shops, 108 open stalls, a motor park, and other complementary infrastructure.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Makinde described the projects as clear evidence of the impact that sustained collaboration between the state and local governments could achieve, noting that such synergy had continued to produce tangible, people-focused development across Oyo State.
He specially commended Hon. Akintayo for restoring the commercial vibrancy of the park, describing it as a facility that would now offer traders, motorists, and commuters a safer, cleaner, and more organised environment for their daily activities.
"I am glad today that we have restored the glory of this park through the Ibadan North-East Local Government," Governor Makinde stated.
The governor further assured roadside traders who had earlier been documented that the newly constructed shops would be allocated to them free of charge, and urged them to relocate promptly from the roads into the newly designated market facilities.
He cautioned strongly against any form of extortion in the allocation process, directing beneficiaries to report immediately any individual who attempted to demand payment for the shops.
"We have decided that we will always make provisions before prohibiting roadside trading. What people fail to realise is that these traders use part of their little profit to send their children to school. So, we have done this project to ease their burden," the governor added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Makinde for his commitment to people-oriented governance and his consistent support for local government administrations across the state.
Akintayo noted that the governor's policies had continued to inspire local councils to embark on projects that directly address the needs of residents and drive socio-economic development at the grassroots.
The council boss called on transport unions, market associations, business owners, and other users of the newly commissioned facilities to take ownership of the projects by maintaining cleanliness, preventing vandalism, adhering to operational guidelines, and ensuring orderliness within the premises.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, commended Governor Makinde for his unwavering support for local governments, describing the newly commissioned projects as further evidence of the administration's commitment to grassroots development. He also appreciated the various stakeholders whose contributions facilitated the successful completion of the projects and the ease of doing business in the state.
The commissioning ceremony attracted top dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal; the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; the Chief of Staff, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, PhD; members of the State Executive Council; Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State, Hon. Sikiru Sanda; the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Y.K. Abass; alongside market leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
