Akintayo Demonstrates Commitment to Youth Development as Ibadan North-East Hosts Outstanding Students for One-Day Chairmanship Experience

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, popularly known as “O Mu Yes,” has demonstrated his commitment to youth development and inclusive leadership by providing two outstanding students with the opportunity to experience leadership firsthand in the local government.

The initiative followed the outstanding performance of Ode Aje Ajibola High School, Aremo, Ibadan, which emerged Overall 1st Position in Ibadan, Oyo State, for the 2025/2026 academic session in recognition of its exceptional performance in the utilisation of the Darsel Mathematics Chatbot.

As part of the activities surrounding the achievement, the school’s overall best Mathematics student, Monsuru Abibat Omotolani, became the Day Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, while Lukman Tahir Olayemi, also of Ode Aje Ajibola High School, assumed the position of Day Vice Chairman of Ibadan East LCDA, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

The experience took a remarkable turn when the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, entrusted his official vehicle to the student serving as Day Chairman for use during the exercise.

In an unusual demonstration of trust and encouragement, Hon. Akintayo also handed over his official pen to the student, allowing her to attend to official files and receive members of the public who came to the Chairman’s office to present various matters.

The gesture provided the young student with a practical understanding of leadership, administration and public service, while also reinforcing the importance of giving young people opportunities to learn, lead and contribute to society.

Hon. Akintayo and some of his political associates subsequently took the Day Chairman on a tour of the offices of the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Mrs. Omolara Aremu, the LCDA and other key offices within the local government.

The young student was warmly received by members of staff and residents of Ibadan North-East, who expressed delight at seeing a young person being given such a rare opportunity to experience the responsibilities of public office. She was also showered with words of encouragement, love and encomiums throughout the visit.

The initiative by Hon. Akintayo has further highlighted his administration’s commitment to nurturing young minds and exposing students to the realities of leadership, governance and community service.

Rather than merely speaking about youth empowerment, the Ibadan North-East Council Chairman demonstrated through his actions that young people can be trusted, encouraged and prepared for future leadership responsibilities.

The Principal of Ode Aje Ajibola High School, Mrs. Mujidat Adeyinka, expressed appreciation to Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo for the gesture, describing him as a very humble and approachable leader who genuinely desires the best for children.

She commended the Chairman for creating an experience that would remain memorable to the students and inspire them to aspire to greater heights.

The Day Chairman and Day Vice Chairman’s experience therefore went beyond the presentation of an award. It became an opportunity for practical leadership training and a demonstration of the possibilities that exist when responsible leaders create space for young people to learn and participate in governance.
