APM Chieftain "Authority" Calls for Fairness for Ibadan North East Constituency 1 in Next LG Chairmanship

A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Akinsola Ismail Oladimeji, popularly known as "Authority," has appealed to party leaders and political stakeholders to ensure fairness in the allocation of the next Local Government Chairmanship position in Ibadan North East Local Government.

In a formal complaint addressed to the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Authority expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged marginalization of Ibadan North East Constituency 1 in the distribution of the Local Government Chairmanship position.

According to the letter, Ibadan North East Local Government is made up of two constituencies—Constituency 1 and Constituency 2. Authority stated that since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Constituency 1 has produced the Local Government Chairman only once, serving between 1999 and 2002, while the chairmanship position has remained with Constituency 2 from 2002 to date.

He further alleged that most strategic party offices, including those of Party Chairman, Party Secretary, Women Leader and Youth Leader, are currently occupied by members of Constituency 2. He also claimed that key government positions, such as Local Government Chairman, Council Secretary and Leader of the Legislative Council, are all being held by individuals from Constituency 2.

Describing the situation as inconsistent with the principles of equity, justice, fairness and inclusiveness, Authority urged the party leadership to correct the imbalance by allowing Ibadan North East Constituency 1 to produce the next Local Government Chairman.

According to him, allowing Constituency 1 to produce the next Chairman would promote unity, strengthen the party and give every part of the Local Government a greater sense of belonging.

He expressed confidence that the party leadership would give the appeal urgent and favourable consideration in the interest of justice, fairness and the continued progress of Ibadan North East Local Government.

At the time of filing this report, the leadership of the PDP–APM Alliance had not publicly responded to the appeal.
