Agbajowo Movement Urges INEC to Extend Voter Registration, Says Millions Deserve More Time to Obtain PVCs
The Agbajowo Movement, a socio-political organisation, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to further extend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is scheduled to end on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
In a joint press statement signed by the coordinators of the three senatorial districts in Oyo State, the movement argued that many eligible Nigerians were unable to complete their registration due to challenges associated with the initial registration process.
According to the statement, the earlier registration procedure required prospective voters who registered online to visit designated INEC offices for biometric capture and completion. The movement noted that securing appointments for physical capture proved difficult for many registrants, significantly affecting the success rate of the exercise.
The coordinators, however, commended INEC for introducing the self-service registration and completion process, which became operational on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, describing it as a commendable step towards improving accessibility and encouraging wider participation in the electoral process.
Despite this improvement, the movement observed that the online portal experienced technical difficulties for several weeks, making it difficult for many Nigerians to complete their registration. Although the portal is now functioning more effectively, the organisation maintained that the period between its smooth operation and the registration deadline is too short to accommodate the large number of eligible citizens still seeking to register.
The Agbajowo Movement therefore appealed to INEC to grant an additional extension to the registration exercise to ensure that no eligible Nigerian is disenfranchised because of technical or administrative challenges.
The organisation also urged the people of Oyo State and Nigerians across the country who are yet to register to take advantage of the remaining hours of the exercise while awaiting a favourable response from INEC to its call for an extension.
The movement reiterated that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains a vital civic responsibility and encouraged all eligible citizens to participate actively in the democratic process by ensuring they are registered to vote.
