Kunle Busari Properly Cleared, Wins Accord Guber Ticket Through Direct Primary Across Oyo State – Accord National Secretary
The National Secretary of the Accord party, Hon. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja, has affirmed that Hon. Kunle Busari was properly cleared and won the party’s governorship ticket through a direct primary conducted across Oyo State, while disowning any exercise held at A3 Hotel.
Ajaja said the party’s decision to adopt a direct primary was followed through, with party members participating in all zones of the state. “Kunle Busari was properly cleared and no one withdrew and the party decided to go for direct primary,” she said. “The direct primary was conducted across Oyo State.”
According to her, the process produced Busari as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election after he defeated fellow aspirants Oriyomi Hamzat and Fatai Owoseni. She maintained that the exercise was carried out under the authority of the party’s recognized structures.
However, Ajaja distanced the national secretariat from a separate process reported to have taken place at A3 Hotel in Ibadan. “As the National Secretary, I didn’t authorise nor approve anybody to conduct primary in A3 hotel,” she stated.
The comments point to an internal dispute within the party over the conduct and venue of the primary. While the national leadership recognizes the state-wide direct primary, the emergence of a parallel exercise at A3 Hotel has created conflicting claims on the legitimacy of the process.
Busari’s emergence comes as Accord seeks to reposition itself ahead of 2027, banking on its presence in Oyo State and efforts to attract disgruntled members from larger parties. Political observers note that the resolution of the internal dispute will be key to the party’s credibility and campaign cohesion in the state.
For now, the party maintains that the direct primary remains the valid process that produced Busari as its flagbearer. The next step is expected to be the submission of his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2027 election timetable.
