Fayose Accused of Opportunism, Told to Stop Fueling Tension in Ibadan — Group Raises Alarm
A socio-cultural organization committed to the unity, growth, and preservation of Ibadanland, the Ibadan Progressive Heritage Forum (IPHF), has strongly cautioned former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to desist from what it described as attempts to stir unnecessary tension in Ibadan for personal political gains.
In a statement made available to the public, the group alleged that Fayose’s recent activities and growing presence around sensitive traditional matters in Ibadan have raised concerns among stakeholders, especially at a time when the atmosphere requires calmness, wisdom, and respect for established customs.
According to the Forum, it is troubling to witness an external political figure allegedly interfering in matters concerning Ibadan, while pressing issues in his own state demand attention.
The group stated that Ibadan has historically been known for its enviable culture, peaceful coexistence, and deep respect for tradition, warning that such heritage must not be sacrificed on the altar of political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
IPHF further urged Fayose to steer clear of Ibadan affairs in all ramifications, insisting that the ancient city has enjoyed decades of stability and harmony until recent developments that have seen politics creeping into sacred traditional processes.
The Forum also called on respected sons and daughters of Ibadan, as well as stakeholders within the traditional institution, to rise in one accord and protect the integrity of the revered Olubadan throne from actions capable of bringing it into disrepute.
“We call on all critical stakeholders in Ibadanland to act swiftly and decisively to halt these disturbing trends before the highly respected throne is unnecessarily dragged into controversy,” the statement concluded.
