BREAKING NEWS: Court Clears PDP to Hold National Convention in Ibadan, Orders INEC to Monitor

In a major legal victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has given the green light for the party to go ahead with its Elective National Convention.

The ruling, delivered on Monday, November 3, 2025, by Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola, came in Suit No. I/1336/2025 filed by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary.

Justice Akintola, in his judgment, restrained the PDP or any of its agents from taking any action that could disrupt or prevent the convention from holding as scheduled. The court further directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy officials to monitor and observe the exercise to ensure full compliance with electoral laws and promote transparency.

According to the ruling, the PDP National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, is free to continue with all preparations ahead of the convention.

The event, slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, will take place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, with over 3,000 delegates expected to participate, including governors, National Assembly members, and key party stakeholders from across the country.

Political observers describe the decision as a landmark judgment that clears away lingering legal uncertainties and allows the PDP to proceed with a unified and legitimate national convention.
