A Crying Baby Doesn’t Stop the Naming Ceremony — Hon. Akinsola Authority Backs PDP to Proceed with National Convention
Ibadan, Oyo State | November 5, 2025
A stakeholder of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Hon. Akinsola Ismail Oladimeji, has called on party members across the country to remain calm and focused as the PDP prepares for its forthcoming National Convention, saying internal disagreements should not halt the process.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Hon. Akinsola likened the current situation within the PDP to a crying baby at a naming ceremony, stressing that such moments require patience and maturity, not postponement.
“It is not right to say that because a newborn baby is crying during or before the naming ceremony, the ceremony should not hold,” he explained. “No, the parents will attend to the crying while the Alfa or Pastor continues with the naming. In the same vein, the current situation within the PDP should not be a reason to suspend or delay the Party’s National Convention.”
The Oyo PDP stalwart maintained that internal disagreements and varying opinions are normal in every democratic setting, describing them as part of the healthy debates that keep political institutions strong. He emphasized that the recent ruling of the Abuja High Court does not align with the democratic spirit that guides political parties.
According to him, the internal affairs of the PDP should be handled through its own constitutionally provided mechanisms of internal democracy.
“The PDP has always stood as a beacon of democracy in Nigeria, and it must continue to lead by example,” Akinsola noted. “The process of rebuilding and strengthening our great party should not be hindered by temporary disputes, but driven by unity, fairness, and respect for our internal conflict-resolution procedures.”
He further stated that the Oyo State High Court judgment sitting in Ibadan represents both a technical and moral judgment in line with the PDP constitution and generally accepted party procedures.
Hon. Akinsola therefore urged all party stakeholders, leaders, and members nationwide to remain calm and committed to the collective vision of repositioning the PDP as the true voice of the Nigerian people.
