Ibadan North East Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo Mourns Late Olubadan, Oba Dr. Owolabi Olakulehin

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, popularly known as ‘O mu yes’, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Owolabi Olakulehin, describing it as a monumental loss to the traditional institution, Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large.

In a condolence message released on Monday, 7th July 2025, Hon. Akintayo extended his sympathies to the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the people of Ibadanland, and His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the irreparable loss of the highly revered monarch.

He described Oba Olakulehin as a symbol of unity, tradition, and royal wisdom, whose reign—though brief—was marked by peace, maturity, and a fatherly devotion to the progress of Ibadanland.

“On behalf of the government and the good people of Ibadan North East Local Government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the royal household, the people of Ibadan, and the entire state. The passing of Oba Dr. Owolabi Olakulehin is a painful exit of a respected monarch whose life was devoted to the service of humanity and the preservation of Ibadan’s rich heritage,” Hon. Akintayo stated.

He also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his steadfast support for the Olubadan institution and called on the people to remain united in honouring the late king’s legacy.

“As we mourn, let us also celebrate the impactful life of Kabiyesi, and pray that his soul finds peaceful rest in the bosom of the Almighty. May his legacy of peace and royal honour continue to inspire future generations,” he concluded.

Hon. Akintayo further called for prayers for the family of the late monarch and a smooth transition as Ibadan prepares to welcome its next Olubadan.
