IBADAN NORTH-EAST LG HELMSMAN TAKES PROACTIVE MEASURE AMIDST SECURITY TENSION, MEETS MARKET LEADERS AND SECURITY AGENTS, PLEADS FOR ORDERLINESS.
It was a moment of restrategising , rethinking and reloading on 6th February, 2023 at the traditional council hall of Ibadan North East LG where who is who in the security circle and market major stake holders gathered to delibrate especially on the immediate and remote ugly outcome of the unrest that recently engulfed many parts of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, primarily areas belonging to Ibadan North East LG due to "scarcity of fuel and naira".
The civil unrest led to the destruction of properties such as vehicles, bank ATMs, looting of shops even left some individuals stranded and injured. Thus, possible measure to quell and forestall such occurrence in the nearest future formed the basis of the peace and security meeting that was conveyed in the LG.
Hon. Ibrahim Akinsola Akintayo, the executive chairman of the hosting LGA welcomed all attendees warmly and read out the purpose of calling the meeting, stressing the form he would love the day's discussion to take.
Many participants in the meeting bear out their minds on the current situation. Alhaji Adebayo salimon, in his opinion said we must call our children and apprentice of all sorts under us to order, educate them on the danger of involving themselves in rioting and the need for them to embrace peace at all times. He also implored the chairman and the management of the LG to meet bankers and security agents in order to ease the people's pains. He advised all security heads present to also work underneath to fish out disgruntled elements who could pose danger to our society; thus, suggested that "security committee" be constituted in the midst of markets as the council boss had earlier informed them and should be in two (2) forms. committee for the general markets and committee for each section of the market to lessen the work of security agents. Mr. Shina owoade In his own words said that political stake holders should be called to a meeting because some crisis erupted some times due to sponsored aggressions, though crisis could come as accidental and could be situational as we witnessed recently. He commended the council boss for the proactive action taken at this point in time.
Other market leaders who spoke at the gathering include: Alhaja Laaro Akala, Alhaji Ibrahim Balogun (baba-loja Basorun),baale of oranyan, chief Ayobami Apena, Alfa Bankole Rafiu, Aare oloja of Araromi market and chief Akinpelu Ambali( baba-laje of the LG).
Security personnel present at the meeting were from the state security service (SSS), immigration service, the civil defense corps, police and volunteer community policing. Career officers were also not left behind, Mrs R. A Olabode, the Head of Local Government administration of the council led the management team listed here, Dr. Mrs R. F Olanrewaju, the director of admin and general services, the director of finance and supplies, Alhaji Ahmed Lateef.
Addressing the gathering,the council helmsman, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo appreciated everyone who graced the meeting and urged them to make sure peace prevailed in the entire territory of Ibadan North East LG. He further highlighted the resolutions of the meeting as seen below:
**That constituting security committee should be quick and each section of all market should have there own security committee.
**That he, the chairman as the representative of the executive governor would call on petrol station owners and visit banks in the LG for help to ease the hardship being faced by the people.
**That if any market committee could not perform as expected, the LG would take it up directly.
**That reading of riot act would be important to all market and communities.
**That for effective security patrolling,all petrol station in the LG be persuaded to always consider selling to security agents as quickly as possible when the need arises.
