Babalola, Akinloye Seek Grassroots Backing for APM Candidates Ahead of Elections
Members of the Ibadan North East Local Government Pensioners Association have reaffirmed their support for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the welfare policies of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde as a major factor behind their endorsement.
The declaration was made during an interactive session held between the pensioners and political leaders from Ibadan North East Local Government.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Abiodun Babalola, PhD, member representing Ibadan North East Constituency I in the Oyo State House of Assembly and APM candidate, alongside Hon. Akinloye Abdulrazaq Abiola, APM candidate for Ibadan North East Constituency II, urged the pensioners to sustain their support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s political aspirations, including calls for him to contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The lawmakers also canvassed support for other APM-backed candidates, including Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi for Governor of Oyo State, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Odidiomo for Oyo South Senatorial District, and Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin for the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
According to them, continued support for the party and its candidates would ensure the sustenance of people-oriented policies and developmental programmes across the state and the country.
In their response, the pensioners pledged their loyalty to the APM, noting that Governor Makinde’s administration has consistently prioritised their welfare through prompt attention to pension-related issues and other social interventions.
They expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to the wellbeing of retirees and assured the party leaders of their readiness to mobilise support for APM candidates during the forthcoming elections.
The meeting was facilitated by the Chairman of the Local Government Pension Board, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige, who commended the pensioners for their continued contributions to society and their support for progressive governance.
Hon. Ige also encouraged the retirees to remain active stakeholders in the political process and work towards the electoral success of the APM, stressing that the party remains committed to protecting the interests and welfare of pensioners across Oyo State.
The interactive session provided an opportunity for dialogue between the political leaders and pensioners, with discussions focusing on governance, welfare, and the future political direction of Oyo State and Nigeria.
