Ibadan North-East Chairman, Akintayo, Preaches Love and Tolerance as Ramadan and Lent Begin
...urges peaceful coexistence
The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Ibrahim Akintayo (popularly known as O mu Yes) has extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in Ibadan and beyond on the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, as well as to Christians as they begin the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday.
In a release signed by the Council’s Information Officer, Ikeoye Oyetoro, The Chairman who is also the (Aare Akeweje Adinni of Oyo State) described the simultaneous beginning of Ramadan and Lent as a divine sign of unity, peace, and shared spiritual values among people of different faiths. He noted that both periods are devoted to prayer, fasting, self-discipline, repentance, and renewed commitment to God.
Hon. Akintayo also conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, religious leaders, the Chief Imam of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Imam Abdul Fatai Muhammad Awwal, Christian Leaders, Political Leaders, Legislative Council, Political Functionaries, Management & entire Staff Members and all residents of Ibadan North-East Local Government home and abroad.
The Council Boss emphasized the importance of Ramadan fasting as a period of spiritual purification, self-restraint, compassion, and increased devotion to Allah. According to him, Ramadan encourages Muslims to strengthen their moral character, promote kindness, and deepen their relationship with God and fellow human beings.
Similarly, he highlighted the significance of the Lenten season in Christianity as a time for reflection, prayer, fasting, and sacrifice, patterned after the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
The Chairman noted that the coincidence of these two sacred seasons reflects the common values of love, humility, forgiveness, and service to humanity shared by Islam and Christianity. He urged residents to use this period to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
Hon. Akintayo further called on the people to remember the less privileged by extending generosity, care, and support, stressing the need for everyone to be their brother’s keeper. He also encouraged citizens to pray for peace, unity, and national development, as well as for the continued progress of Ibadan North-East Local Government.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman prayed for strength, good health, and spiritual fulfillment for Muslims throughout the Ramadan fast, and for Christians during the Lenten season. He expressed confidence that all faithful would successfully complete the period in sound health and renewed faith.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, inclusiveness, and harmonious living among all residents, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
