Defection Saga: Many Look, Few See — Hon. Abiodun Babalola Echoes Gov. Makinde’s Message on True Leadership

In the wake of recent political defections across the country, Hon. Babalola Abiodun, Ph.D., Member, Oyo State House of Assembly, has shared a thought-provoking reflection inspired by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s perspective on what truly matters in governance.

In his message titled “Defection Saga: Many Look, Few See,” Hon. Babalola noted that while many are preoccupied with tracking who is leaving or joining which political camp, Governor Makinde continues to emphasize the real defection that Nigeria needs — the defection of hunger, poverty, and inequality.

“The only defection that matters,” Governor Makinde remarked, “is the defection of hunger — when poverty and hardship finally leave.”

Hon. Babalola echoed this sentiment, observing that as some elites adjust to political shifts, the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens continue to deepen.
“The real issue isn’t party politics,” he said. “It’s about addressing inequality and hunger, and ensuring that politics serves humanity — not power.”

Referencing the book “Money: A Story of Humanity,” he underscored the importance of empathy and purpose in leadership. With the PDP National Convention set to hold in Ibadan, Hon. Babalola described it as an opportunity for introspection and renewal — a moment to “reset our values” and “bring relief, not pain.”

“While others defect for convenience,” he added, “the PDP must stand for conscience — because when hunger defects, prosperity and pride return.”

The statement reinforces Governor Makinde’s reputation as a people-centered leader who prioritizes policies that directly impact lives over political theatrics.
